Bear Mountain Bakers bread comes to you from a wood-fired brick oven in East Wallingford Vermont.  In the tradition of European bakers, our bread is baked directly on a brick hearth giving it a crisp crust and chewy consistency.  The only leavening in our bread is sourdough, which imparts its unique flavor.

We have been baking sourdough breads in our oven on Bear Mountain since 1984. We use organic raisins & oats, and local organic grains including; hard winter wheat berries from Gleason Grains’ and rye berries from Butterworks Farm. We mill the wheat and rye ourselves. We offer six varieties year-round at the Saturday Rutland Farmers’ Market and the Rutland Area Food Co-op.  Look for our breads in other locations too, as we continue to grow.
